The JRA (Junk
and Advanced Cruising Rig Association),
formed in 1980, has the aim of furthering the development of the
junk rig and other unstayed and/or battened cruising rigs and
creating an international community of people interested in such
rigs to share experience and ideas.
The JRA publishes
newsletters, organises rallies and provides services such as Fact
Sheets, book loans and a comprehensive international membership
list to enable members to make contact with each other.
The bi-annual
newsletter/journal provides the core of the JRA's existence. Through
the pages of the journal, total novices to the delights of sailing,
seasoned cruising folk, famous pioneers of rig design and lone
circumnavigators can mix together and exchange information, ideas
and experiences.
Back issues
of the Newsletter are available to members to purchase, forming
an invaluable archive of information and experience for anyone
interested in sailing, building or owning these rigs.
Rallies held
four to five times each year in a variety of locations in the
UK and Europe give members the opportunity to meet, to try out
the rig on members' boats, to discuss rig design and construction,
to swap information and to recount their experiences.
